As the final bottles of De Toren Patronus 2023 vintage find their custodians, we take a moment to reflect on a campaign that has gone far beyond the cellar.

Rooted in the value of legacy, this year’s Patronus initiative once again extended De Toren’s philosophy of stewardship, not only of our estate, but of South Africa’s precious wildlife. Through the generosity of our patrons during September and October, each bottle purchased has directly contributed to the care and protection of orphaned rhinos at The Rhino Orphanage in Limpopo.

As De Toren’s Managing Partner, Albie Koch, shared earlier in the campaign:

“Wine and wildlife may seem far apart, yet both rely on one truth: sustainability. Without care today, there is no tomorrow. Just as we protect our vineyards for the next generation, we must ensure our children inherit thriving wildlife alongside thriving farmlands.”

These words have resonated deeply over the past two months, as our collaboration with The Rhino Orphanage helped provide essential funding for food, veterinary care, and security, the lifelines that ensure every young calf has a chance to grow strong and, one day, return to the wild.

From Albie’s vision for deeper, long-term involvement in conservation to the stories shared by Arrie and his team at The Rhino Orphanage, this campaign has reminded us that every act of guardianship matters. Each bottle of Patronus sold has not only been a celebration of fine wine; it has been a gesture of hope and a promise towards preservation.

To our patrons, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for being part of this meaningful legacy. The Patronus 2023 vintage stands as a testament to what can be achieved when craftsmanship and compassion come together, a true reflection of the De Toren philosophy.

Because luxury is not only what we savour; it is what we preserve.
