Tim Atkin Grants Outstanding Awards for De Toren
During the month of August, we were honoured to receive superb news from the highly reputable British Master of Wine, Tim Atkin. The craftsmanship invested in each and every step of our winemaking process during the 2017 vintage has been rewarded by the spectacular reviews from this esteemed wine critic.
Hence, it is with great excitement that we announce that our De Toren Fusion V 2017 was granted a stellar 95 Points, whereas our De Toren Z 2017 was awarded with a phenomenal 93 Points. This marks De Toren’s highest rating yet by the international reviewer, Tim Atkin, for both of our Bordeaux-style blends.

DE TOREN Z 2016
Wine Enthusiast Magazine awarded the highly regarded 2016 vintage of our ruby-hued, Right-Bank Bordeaux styled blend, De Toren Z, an outstanding 91 Points.
The Editor of Wine Enthusiast Magazine’s thoughts on De Toren Z 2016…
“There’s a deep kirsch aroma on the nose of this wine, with additional notes of pressed violets, crème de cassis and blackberry paste. The palate is medium in weight and plush in feel, with velvety tannins that lend ample structure and support to the ripe cherry and berry fruit flavors. Final notes of cedary spice, light char and cocoa powder add decadence through the close.”
DE TOREN FUSION V 2016
Our prestigious De Toren Fusion V 2016, a Cabernet Sauvignon dominated Bordeaux-style blend, was awarded a magnificent 93 Points by Wine Enthusiast Magazine.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine Editor, Lauren Buzzeo had the following to say about this wine…
“Blackberry, plum and currant fruit aromas form the bouquet of this enticing red, with additional notes of cedar box, pipe tobacco and licorice root. The palate is smooth and velvety in feel, with moderate tannins that frame the plush fruit flavors and offer lingering grip and structure through the close. Final impressions of black plum skin and cigar box spice carry the finish.”
BOOK XVII 2017
The phenomenal Book XVII, a Bordeaux-style blend, was granted a glorious rating of 94 Points, during recent Wine Enthusiast reviews. The 2017 vintage of this wine has again been included in the Top 100 Cellar Selections.
One of SA’s Top rated wines, in Wine Enthusiast Editor, Lauren’s own words…
“There’s a slight warmth upfront on the nose of this bold wine, with pronounced wood spice and sweet oak tones that ride atop the plush cassis, blackberry and black plum fruit. The palate is bold and quite firmly structured at present, with oodles of oak-fueled spice that overlay, but don’t completely overwhelm, the just-ripe black currant and plum flavors. It’s firm and structured, but with good balance and the promise of great longevity. Drink after 2025 and through 2035.”
