To delight in Exceptional Experiences is to visit De Toren, delighting in fine wine with each sip. However, if you can’t make it to our private cellar, don’t worry—there are incredible places where you can still experience De Toren wines.
These recommendations are just a few of the many excellent restaurants we are fortunate to partner with. Frequented by European international visitors, you will be treated to world-class experiences with the finest South African hospitality.
To avoid disappointment, we highly recommend calling for bookings and enquiring about your choice of De Toren wine on their menu. Our wines are generally stocked in these restaurants, but seasonal changes may affect availability.
CAPE TOWN
Ellerman House – Recently awarded the prestigious Best City Hotel in Africa award, this hotel at the slopes of Lion’s Head has been home to local and international wine aficionados alike. Their wine library exceeds expectations both in variety and artistic features. Bookings can be made on the Dine Plan mobile app or web page.
Fat Butcher – On a modest corner in Stellenbosch is a restaurant known for its premium meat selection, cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, the local wine selection is of exceptional standards, and you will certainly want to return for celebrations and ordinary weeknights. We recommend booking 2-3 weeks in advance, especially during high season, as Fat Butcher is often fully booked.
Athletic Club & Social – The hottest hangout spot in central Cape Town, this multi-cultural and musically diverse jazz club is perfect for those who are in the mood for something relaxed and social.
DUSK – DUSK is a one-of-a-kind experience reminiscent of a New York City speakeasy; with a dramatic low-lit yet effortless atmosphere concealing an intimate, 13-seater culinary enclave from the lively streets of Stellenbosch. A 13-course explorative menu and premium wine selection beckons one on an immersive culinary odyssey.
GAUTENG
Pasta Barra – New on the scene is this well-curated, unpretentious experience in the heart of Pretoria. Awarded the best fine dining experience in the Jacaranda city, Pasta Barra leaves the senses satisfied from cocktails to fine wines and pasta experience menus to innovative cuisine with a few of the old classics. Pasta Barra only has a few sittings per day, and we highly recommend booking a week or two in advance.
Saint – The chic of Saint is bold and daring. From the moment you walk past their stairways and transparent cellar, wall décor and even their website, you will experience a fantastic affair of modern art fused with both casual and fine cuisine and an exceptional selection of wine. Saint offers something for everyone, and if we may quote: “The decadent mingling dangerously the divine.” Just across the pebbled entrance is their sister restaurant and bar, Zioux, upholding the standard with large lion door handles, zoo-inspired décor, a roaring Asian menu, and a bar for the boldest.
Embarc – A quaint, streetside eatery on the favourite street of Parkhurst hosts a modern, trendy space and menu curated by chef Darren, known for his experimental cuisine with an artistic flair. Embarc also hosts events with private dining experiences for those seeking something exceptional.
The Grillhouse – Reminiscent of the classic New York Grillhouse, the premium steakhouse opened its doors in 1994 and was one of the very first trade partners who listed our wines when De Toren launched its maiden vintage shortly after. Grillhouse is often referred to as the most loved steakhouse in Johannesburg and for good reason; the service is on point; the lighting is cosy, and the selection of meat and wine is lavish.
If you feel spoilt for choice, we recommend indulging in any of the above recommendations.
