De Toren Fusion V is a testament to the art of winemaking and the 2021 vintage of our Left-Bank-inspired blend is finally ready to be released from our cellar. Born from the first-ever gravity-fed cellar in South Africa, came the first premium five-varietal Bordeaux-style blend in the country that promised a continued legacy in global winemaking.
The bouquet of the 2021 Fusion V begins with luscious notes of creamy red fruits like cranberry and cherry. These aromas seamlessly transition into layers of purple fruits, all complemented by a captivating hint of graphite underneath. This aromatic complexity is a hallmark of the Fusion V, showcasing the careful selection and blending of grape varieties.
On the palate, the blend is a masterpiece of balance and intensity. Impeccably integrated, fine-grained tannins envelop the mouth, delivering a tantalizingly creamy sensation. Concentrated fruit bursts forth in the mid-palate, accompanied by a mouthwatering acidity that enhances the intensity of the fruit flavours. This harmonious interplay of flavours and textures creates a memorable tasting experience.
Aged in a climatized barrel maturation room (16 degrees Celsius at 80% humidity) for 12 months, the 2021 Fusion V benefits from the perfect conditions for ageing. Approximately 50% new and 50% second fill, 225-litre oak barrels are used, with French oak predominantly during maturation. A portion of the Malbec receives the benefit of American oak, adding a unique dimension to the blend.
Our pursuit of perfection starts in the vineyard and continues into the cellar. We employ sustainable practices that respect both the environment and the integrity of our grapes. Our precision farming techniques ensure that each vine performs at its optimal and we continue our meticulous practices in fermentation, barrel selection and blending to extract the finest from nature.
The 2021 Fusion V is more than just a wine; it’s a fine blend layered with history and heritage. Its complexity and aromatic depth make it a standout addition to any cellar. As it ages, the complexity of this wine will only deepen, promising an even more delightful discovery.
Officially Releasing on 5 September 2024.
