We proudly announce the launch of the 2018 vintage of our famed Merlot-dominated blend, De Toren Edition Z.
The 2018 vintage of our Right Bank Bordeaux style blend is the same, irresistible blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot. The old blend comes in exciting new packaging and a slightly evolved name, but more on that later…
As always, it is recognized by its powerful, dark fruit and mulberry complexion. Notes of graphite and purple fruits are present which is in harmony with the wine’s acidity and ends with a hint of sweet spice and aniseed.
The production of the season was smaller than average as it was the last year of the 4-year drought in the Western Cape, producing a rare and exceptional vintage. Greg Sherwood, London based South African Master of Wine, granted the vintage a stellar 94 points. Read more about Greg’s review here.
With officially releasing this bespoke wine’s 2018 vintage, we decided to take a considered approach and evolve the label design rather than revolutionizing it. Edition Z is inspired in honour of 15 years of ‘Z’, as it is affectionately referred to, while also paving the road golden for its future.
“Both the label and the sleeve has a sophisticated yet almost earthy-textured feel with diamond-shaped details. The metallic silver typography is a remnant of the first label of Z. The majestic lion crest features on a maroon backdrop and for a final touch, the winemaker’s signature.”
