Wine aficionados, leading businessmen, distinguished entrepreneurs and well-known celebrities and socialites from around the globe gathered on Saturday, 10 February 2018 to raise funds for a good cause. The Cape Wine Auction is internationally regarded one of the most prestigious events on the annual social calendar. The 2018 Cape Wine Auction 2018 was no exception. Guests enjoyed a gastronomic feast, prepared by some of South Africa’s top culinary experts, as well as a phenomenal selection of fine wine, leading SA wine producers. All whilst bidding on the spectacular selection of lots available on the day at the beautiful setting of Rustenberg Wine Estate.
This year, De Toren Private Cellar joined forces with the award-winning 5-Star Boutique Hotel Group, Tintswalo to form an exclusive partnership that delivered an even more extraordinary lot. A lot of absolute leisure and luxury, lot #34 – all for an exceptionally good cause. The funds raised on the day, will essentially help aid education in the South African winelands, supporting just under 20 different charity beneficiaries.
This year’s event was no exception, with over R70 million being raised over the past 5 years, of which De Toren Private Cellar lots proudly contributed R2.26 million. A grand total of a phenomenal R17 million was raised at the The 2018 Cape Wine Auction. De Toren Private Cellar, founding member and proud ambassador of this respected celebration for a good cause, raised a stellar R500 000, half a million rand, with our prestigious auction lot, placing it in the top 5 of all auction lots sold on the day.
The lot owner of the esteemed De Toren & Tintswalo lot is Mr Guy Hands. He and a partner will have the exclusive opportunity to enjoy a blissful time at Cape Town’s hidden gem, Tintswalo Atlantic, as well as a true South African experience at Tintswalo Safari, situated in the heart of the Kruger National Park. Mr Hands is now also the proud owner of some of the rarest and most sought-after De Toren wines, dating back to the maiden vintages of our range and limited editions that have never ever been sold before.
