The newly released 2015 vintage of this remarkable Shiraz, The Black Lion, exclusively available from our online cellar, is if possible, even more intense and powerful than before with the most seductive, silky-smooth mouthfeel. In South Africa, 2015 has been identified as one of the greatest harvests in years, promising to deliver some of the country’s finest wines. The desirable climate of the season, along with the elaborate and intense crafting process of this unique Shiraz, is further proof of this wine’s destined collector’s-item status.
The individual vines, located in the selected terroirs, namely the Swartland, known for its powerful Shiraz berries, the Helderberg and Polkadraai area better known for its undeniable sophistication are specifically identified through the use of infra-red aerial imaging. Each single vine is then used to grow a mere four hand-manicured bunches, providing the opportunity for these bunches to receive the essential individual attention, i.e. during the ripening phase these bunches are specially manicured, followed by a meticulous process of hand-harvesting as well as hand-destemming. Following the sorting process, ensuring only berries of the highest quality is selected, fermentation and ageing in 200% new French Oak barrels commence.
Only 1058 bottles of the 2015 vintage have been produced of which 597 were secured during the pre-release. The availability of the remaining 461 of this sought-after collector’s item is therefore transient.
