De Toren Private Cellar is renowned for craftsmanship and our continuous quest for perfection. This meticulous attention to detail, every step of the way would not be possible without the amazing members of the extended De Toren team. One of the very last steps in this process, before the enjoyment of the wines by you, our beloved clients of course, is the precision of packaging.

With this being said, we would like to honour the two remarkable women responsible for every single, beautiful detail of the De Toren packaging. Two names perhaps quite familiar to most of you. If you’ve ever purchased a case or two or three before, you might remember the very first thing you saw when opening it. That would be the business card of either Rochelle or Christine, informing you who exactly was responsible for the assembly of your parcel with the utmost of care.

We often get requests, asking us to thank Rochelle and Christine for the beautiful packaging or requests to find out more about these two remarkable women. So, we have decided it is time for you to put a face(s) to the name(s) and get to know Rochelle and Christine, the ladies responsible for each and every stunningly packaged De Toren case.

Tell us a bit more about yourself?

Our names are Christine and Rochelle Scheffers and yes, we are family, we are actually cousins. We were both born and raised in the Stellenbosch area, where we also started our respective careers as caterer and vineyard worker. We grew up in Stellenbosch and when we moved on to our current positions or job, we joined seven other members of our family in working for De Toren Private Cellar.

What does your role at De Toren entail?

We primarily form part of the cellar team here at De Toren Private Cellar. Keeping in mind, our main role is to ensure that each and every single bottle of De Toren wine is carefully labelled, wrapped in tissue paper and packaged by hand in its respective gift carton, carton case or wooden case. We genuinely take great pride in our job. It is very important since these are the final touches, right down to the De Toren crest of approval holding the tissue paper in place and even the final closure of the case.

How long have you been with De Toren?

I, Rochelle, have been with De Toren since 2006 and my cousin, Christine joined our team in 2011. So, we’ve actually been part of the De Toren family for a few years now and have grown very fond of the brand in a relatively short space of time. It feels like home.

Do you enjoy working here?

Yes, both of us truly enjoy working at De Toren very much. It truly is a privilege to have come thus far and to be part of this great brand for so many years. But what’s even more special is the people we get to work with on a daily basis, besides our beloved family members, the other team members also feel like family.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

This is rather an easy question to answer. The hand wrapping of each and every single bottle of De Toren wine. It sounds simple, but it’s really what we enjoy most. Knowing that our personal touch will make a difference in the client’s overall De Toren experience, that is what keeps us going.

Apart from being cousins, why do you think the two of you make such a good team?

We make a great team due to our drive, motivation and passion being on the same level and we both are very proud of what we do here at De Toren. But, as much as we are the same, we are also quite different people. This balance plays a vital role in our team – Rochelle is very friendly, but a bit more shy and reserved, whereas Christine is the ‘chatterbox’ but very focused. The best of both and we laugh a lot!

Rochelle and Christine, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to both of you for joining us in our pursuit of perfection. We and our valued clients truly appreciate your hard work.
