As 2019 draws to a close, we look back on an exceptional year for De Toren with some stellar reviews and accolades amongst other highlights. Following the release of the 40th edition of the Platter’s Wine Guide, we are thrilled to announce that our iconic De Toren Z and renowned De Toren Fusion V were most recently awarded with remarkable ratings.
The annually published John Platter’s South African Wine Guide has become a standard for wine from South Africa since it offers good wine purchasing decision support and helps one to navigate among all the great wines from SA.
The reputable 2017 vintage of our De Toren Z & De Toren Fusion V were respectively granted an exceptional 93 Points & 94 Points, in the latest edition of this wine guide. These 4.5-star reviews honour these two Bordeaux-style blends for its unique qualities, which classifies both to be of outstanding quality and status according to the Platter’s rating system.
Here is what is said about the 2017 vintage of these two wines in the latest edition of this SA wine guide:
De Toren Fusion V (94 Points): Maintains quality and style in 5-way Bordeaux blend (half cab), showing spice, tobacco, elegant blackcurrant core. Dense, dark tannins brood in the background promising plenty of satisfaction over next decade. Year oak, 50% new, 10% American. Magnums (and larger formats) highly recommended.
De Toren Z (93 Points): Also 5-way Bordeaux blend, but Merlot-led (47%), has plenty of character, black plums and cherries with hints of dust and chocolate. Big and bold, needing time for fruit and oak (30% new, tiny amount of American on the Malbec) to settle. Halves, magnums and larger formats.
Furthermore, the Vivino Community certainly agrees, rating both these two Bordeaux styled blends among the Top 1% of All Wines in the World right now and describing it as “magnificent” and “exceptional” to only name a few.
