With 2017 drawing to a close, we could not have asked for a better way to end off the year! In addition to the spectacular news about our recent ‘New World Winery of the Year’ nomination by Wine Enthusiast, our ultra-luxurious Book XVII as well as our iconic De Toren Z and De Toren Fusion V were all awarded with exceptional ratings.
Wine Enthusiast Top 100 Cellar Selections 2017
The number of wines reviewed by the highly reputable USA publisher, Wine Enthusiast Magazine, grows year after year. To recap these annual tastings and reviews, The Top 100 Cellar Selection List was introduced a few years back to help identify the top wines that are truly worth cellaring.
In recent years, wine has been declared the best-performing collectable in the luxury goods market and has outperformed categories such as classic cars, rare art or jewellery in its stability as an investment. With any investment there is a risk involved, however this list, published by Wine Enthusiast on an annual basis, attempts to minimize the risk by means of identifying those unique wines which embodies prestige, exceptional age-ability and immense quality.
In 2017, a total of 23 000 wines from around the world were tasted, including 17 countries and the greatest variety of cultivars. Our bespoke Book XVII 2014 vintage was awarded an honorary 62nd place in Wine Enthusiast’s Top 100 Cellar Selections of all wines from around the World! This remarkable wine received a phenomenal rating, the highest score awarded to a South African wine by the USA publisher.
2018 Platter’s Wine Guide
This announcement was followed by the release of the 38th edition of the Platter’s Wine Guide. We were thrilled by the news that our renowned De Toren Z 2015 and De Toren Fusion V 2015 were both awarded an outstanding 94 Points in the 2018 Platter’s Wine Guide!
Vivino 2018 Wine Style Awards
The news of the Platter’s Wine Guide ratings was followed by even more good news from Vivino…
Vivino’s 2018 Wine Style Awards recognize the best wines in the world across 147 categories. The winning wines are determined by public, i.e. 21 million Vivino users and the millions of ratings submitted over the past year. Our glorious De Toren Fusion V 2014 vintage secured its first place as Best South African Bordeaux Blend, with a phenomenal rating of 4.5/ 5 Stars.
