The phenomenal 2017 vintage of this Left Bank Bordeaux style blend culminated in vines that were perfectly balanced, restrained and boasted with the smallest, most concentrated berries. This leaves me with the informed opinion that the vintage of 2017 is without a doubt recognised as one of the most exceptional vintages. It could easily be compared to some of our most successful vintages in the history of De Toren!
The favourable weather conditions of the season once again contributed to making the 2017 vintage one of the finest collector’s vintages yet. The exquisitely expressive De Toren Fusion V 2017 unveils intense aromas of juicy red cherries and ripe blueberries. It further compels with supporting nuances of perfume, creamy notes of cassis and an understated, underlining chalky minerality. The wine is beautifully textured, with detailed fruit flavours of creamy blackberries. Dense, yet vibrant the wine lingers with soft, fine-grain tannins inviting one’s senses for the next sip.

As I continue to reminisce over the reputable 2017 vintage of this remarkable Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend, I believe it is a wonderful celebration of this vintage’s pure varietal expression, gracefully showcasing each varietal’s unique characteristics and ultimately its fullest potential. It truly revealed itself as a classic Cinderella story. And boy, am I happy to report that it is indeed so. What a spectacular vintage!
