The Opulent Book XVII 2018 Début…

From the timeless unison of craftsmanship and nature, comes the extraordinary 2018 vintage of the ultra-lavish Book XVII. Beautifully complex and exquisitely elegant, this lush, handcrafted red blend was a logical evolution of De Toren’s acclaimed Bordeaux styled blends. An expression of meticulous winemaking and extreme viticulture. In a word a showcase wine – to show the world what South Africa is capable of producing.

This year marks the 9th vintage release of this exceptionally exclusive wine and it is bound to be one of absolute expression. Exuding phenomenal concentration and a desirable freshness, the opulent Book XVII 2018 vintage is remarkably sophisticated, pure and just the perfect amount of lean.

Often compared to the famed ‘super-Tuscans’ of the world, this is a wine of uncompromising quality, not a single one of the vast expenses spared. A wine that has over the years gathered the most honourable titles including South Africa’s Most Luxurious Wine and reputable USA publisher, Wine Enthusiast’s Highest Ever Rated SA wine.  This wine stands proud amongst the world’s finest.

“The sensational Book XVII 2018 is truly a celebration of this vintage’s magnificent expression of fruit, its impressively bold characteristics, yet subtle elegance. This, along with the team’s extraordinary devotion and expertise invested in crafting this one-of-a-kind wine, makes for an exceptional combination.”

– Charles Williams, Cellar Master –

To ensure a seamless synergy between technology and tradition, near infra-red aerial imaging is used to specifically identify vines of only the highest quality. These Book XVII vines are carefully hand-pruned to grow merely four, perfectly balanced bunches per single vine. Each of these bunches receive individual attention and very specific manicuring during the ripening process, after which it is hand-harvested and also very methodically destemmed. All of this, before submitting it to New French Oak barrels for a period of at least 18 months. Each bottle is also individually labelled and uniquely numbered by hand.

The hardship of traditional winemaking is easily forgotten when encountering the luxurious packaging of this fine Bordeaux-style blend. With an outstanding ageing potential of 40 years plus, this bucket list wine is presented in a uniquely handcrafted wooden case, accompanied by an iconic key to ensure the safekeeping of this collector’s edition.

Uncorking and enjoying this gracious beauty with some of your nearest and dearest, will give you the privilege of honouring the past whilst applauding the present.
